In 1997, the world’s first major air alliance, Star Alliance, was born, promising a new age of seamless and more efficient global travel. Ten years and two major competitors later (oneworld in 1999 and SkyTeam in 2000), the alliance business model has proved its worth. Allied partners now capture more than two-thirds of the global air market and their numbers continue to grow. Meanwhile, travelers enjoy improved service.
